Summary of Session:

The field of Immunohematology is built on immunology, complement and genetics. This course will explore immune response and how antigen-antibody defines serologic blood bank testing. Factors which influence antigen and antibody binding with the activation of complement will be defined. As antigens are defined, the genetics of the expression will be clarified. Genetic expression with applicable population genetics and pedigree analysis will be correlated with blood group expression. This course is a starting point for a deeper understanding of the foundations of Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine.
